Last week, we introduced the new minimum wage levels for 2025.
This week, let’s think about what these changes mean.
The record increase in Japan’s minimum wage is good news for workers, bringing higher income and better living standards, especially for part-time and low-wage employees.
On the other hand, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will face heavier labor costs, in addition to rising prices for materials and energy. How SMEs adapt—through improving productivity, adjusting prices, or using government support—will be a key challenge for survival.
