Japan’s Minimum Wage for 2025 (Reiwa 7) Announced

The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare has published the regional minimum wage amounts for fiscal year 2025.This year, all 47 prefectures will raise their minimum wages by 63 to 82 yen.

  • The nationwide weighted average will be 1,121 yen per hour.(Up 66 yen from last year’s 1,055 yen – the largest increase since the system began in 1978.)

  • The highest minimum wage will be 1,226 yen, and the lowest will be 1,023 yen.The ratio of lowest to highest has improved to 83.4% (better for 11 years in a row).

  • The new minimum wages will take effect between October 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026, depending on the prefecture.
