According to a national tax office's report for tax audit in 2022, around 638,000 cases were audited. There are 3 layers in audit.
1) Field Audit (special/general) at least 10days and more required
2) Field Audit (particular points) for a short term
3) Desk Audit over the phone, correspondence, meeting at tax offices
As you can see, the above 1) is the worst cases -leaking, hiding, cheating etc. can be seen in their self-assessment tax return
The above 2) is less bad case than 1)- the leakage etc. can be seen
The above 3) is caused by careless, mistake, not known etc.
The above audit is done, in order to correct a tax return and to ask you to pay additional tax if there are.
